How to conceptualise your intercultural learning and communication trainings?

Course description

In many contemporary situations in daily life, we face intercultural situations. These may be experienced as challenging how to deal with or as an opportunity to learn and enrich yourself. It is important to guide learners to be ready to work and live in an intercultural context. But how can you set the right objectives and learning goals for your target group and select the relevant working methods to reach these? In this course, the concept of culture and intercultural communication will be approached, including various hands-on working methods will be experienced, in order to use these in the future through a train-the-trainer approach. At the same time a better understanding of learning (styles) will be introduced too, as intercultural communication cannot be taught through a text book and different learners already have a different level of intercultural experiences.

Methodology

A non-formal and experiential learning approach combined with theories will be the approach during this course. This means that the participants will be actively involved in their own learning through engaging working methods. After experiencing specific intercultural communication workshops, the trainers will guide the participants in how they can implement these workshops methods. Furthermore, the context of the participants will be the starting point to analyse what learning goals and objectives the target group of the participants have. Participants will be guided in finding out what approaches are the right ones to reach the learning goals they have developed.
