Course description

Explore persuasive speaking and conversation as a core practice for embracing change. Ethos, Logos, Pathos – are they interconnected? How do I combine them?

Participants train in everything needed for effective communication: Body style and language, comfort and confidence, structured and comprehensive speech, imagination, originality and creative thinking. Through a variety of experiential speech and thinking activities in a familiar and friendly atmosphere, participants showcase their talent in oral expression improving gradually boosting self-confidence. The virtues of good speech and effective listening are systematically cultivated in a playful way adapted to the dynamics and interests of the group.

Methodology

We off­er practical and ef­fective linguistic tools to organize and maintain social groups, construct meanings and identities, coordinate behavior, mediate power and produce change. We embrace community engagement and open conversations that include polyphonic elements and inquiry.

You have the chance to use different strategies and models of communication such as topic analysis, argument building, framing the discussion, critically analysing arguments and responding. We support you as you create arguments and speak your mind.

This is a process of experiential learning where you acquire skills and tools while you work on challenges facing your organisation. Participants receive a toolkit of practical and transferable methods.

We are inviting diverse participants initiating change in their communities and organizations.

This training is also designed for diverse multicultural teams including community leaders and others collectively addressing challenges in their community or organization.

Instructors

Dr. Markos Perrakis, founder and managing director of Fractality, designs and implements projects in the areas of leadership development and strategic planning to promote effective communication and individual and collective process development.
Dr. Perrakis is one of the first persons in Greece to apply the methodology of appreciative inquiry for individual and organizational development. This approach seeks to strengthen human capital and social bonds to generate organizational capacity.

Fractality offers services in coaching, training, assessments, supervision, process facilitation and speaking, systemic consultation, solution focused and cognitive behavioural approaches, methods of participatory design, spiritual intelligence and psychometric assessment. Dr. Perrakis is a certified provider of Vocational Guidance and Professional Orientation and an ISO 9001 lead auditor.
Dr. Perrakis is a representative of the Association of International Institution Supervision in Europe, a member of International Intervision Groups, scientific assistant of the Society for Organisational Learning, and scientific partner of the European Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (EUMU) in Greece in the Strategic Planning and Human Capital Development programmes.

Dr. Perrakis holds a Ph.D. in social psychology on leadership styles and their efficiency in organisations and an M.A. in clinical psychology.

Miha Andric is an international communication, speech & debate teacher, philosopher, and sociologist. He is currently Director of the National debate organisation (ZiP), Board of Directors of the International Debate Education Association (IDEA), President of the Society for development of Humanities, Head of School Speech & Debate Program Argument (competitively the most successful school debate program in Europe between 2015 – 2018) and the Convenor of the International Philosophy Olympiad (world biggest international philosophy event for youth). He has been serving as Program director of several international debate academies in Middle East, Africa, USA and Europe and has been quest lecturer at universities, high schools and independent educational institutions in more than 50 countries around the world. He specialises in coaching and teaching communication studies and humanities related courses (public speaking, negotiations, philosophy, cultural studies, rhetorics, leadership and team work, soft transferrable critical thinking skills as well media literacy) and in development and implementing international educational programs based on interactive “speech and debate methodology” and collaborative participation. In the role of expert advisor, chief adjudicator or convenor he has implemented more than 100 educational or competitive international events. Miha Andric helped to start or set up many national debate programs around the world and is still acting as a trainer for debate and communication trainers, teachers and coaches in 20 countries. He is involved in many international projects where he lead the expert teams for the development of the interdisciplinary cross-curricular methodologies and teaching materials for different educational environments in formal and nonformal education. In the past he was also holding extra curricular seminars at the University of Ljubljana on the topics of political philosophy and modern ideologies.

Venue

Our programme takes place on the island of Crete in Greece in the pleasant seaside town of Platanias close to Chania, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Porto Platanias Village Resort, located on the northwest coast of Crete, provides luxurious accommodations and fully serviced workshop facilities. Beaches, local eateries, shops and sites are within walking distance of Porto Platanias. This setting provides ample opportunity for participants to continue discussions outside of formal workshop hours in a relaxed atmosphere.
The closest international airports are Chania International Airport (24 km) and Heraklion International Airport (165 km).
